Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN) version 1.1 is being superseded by Dial-Up Networking (DUN) version 1.2.
As an upgrade to the Windows 95 dial-up networking software, ISDN 1.1 principally added support for ISDN hardware.
The current upgrade, DUN 1.2, includes various improvements and fixes across the DUN components and provides support for Virtual Private Networking using the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP).
DUN 1.2 also updates several other base networking components, including the TCP/IP stack.
DUN 1.2 can be installed on Windows 95, including retail, OSR 1, and OSR 2 versions, and it will be bundled with Memphis.
The planned schedule for DUN 1.2 includes a beta release in Q2 1997, with final release planned for the second half of 1997. DUN 1.2 will follow approximately the same license agreement as ISDN 1.1.
Version Checking for DUN 1.2 Installation. Installing ISDN 1.1 on a Memphis system or a Windows 95 system that has been upgraded with DUN 1.2 will revert critical network components to earlier revisions. Exact results are unpredictable, but generally speaking, the system will no longer function properly and a reinstallation of DUN 1.2 will be necessary.
